Myth: Obesity is not a big problem for Indians

Fact: India is rapidly becoming obese.

Obesity is rising all over the world including India. Changes in our lifestyle and food from traditional habits have played a big role in making us gain weight. In India, almost 2 out of 10 Indians over 30 years of age are overweight.1

In addition to this, Indians have unique “thin-fat” type of bodies. This means that even if we look thinner, we have a higher percentage of fat per kilo of weight in our bodies as compared to people from other countries.2 All this is increasing the problem of obesity and its related health problems like heart disease and diabetes in India.
