Myth: Long hospital stay adds to the cost of bariatric surgery

Fact: Bariatric surgery can require a very short hospital stay

Nowadays, most of the bariatric surgeries are performed laparoscopically. This means that the surgery is done through only small cuts in the abdomen. These small cuts do not take a long time to heal, leave smaller scars, and are less painful. So, the hospital stay is shorter and the patient recovers faster.

In a surgery for weight loss, most people stay in the hospital for only 2 to 3 days1. This means that the hospital staying cost of bariatric surgery is less as compared to open procedures that require long healing periods. Click here to know more about financial benefits of bariatric surgery.
