If you undergo gastric banding procedure, you will have to come for follow-up visits for band adjustments. As you lose weight, the fit of the band will change and so adjustments will have to be made a number of times.
Usually the first band adjustment will be done within 1 week of your having started eating solid food (4 to 6 weeks after surgery). The procedure for band adjustment requires about 5 to 10 minutes. The subsequent visits vary from patient to patient and will be decided by the surgeon.
Generally, patients need an average of four adjustments during their first year, two during their second year, and two during their third year after surgery.1
