Gaining some weight during pregnancy is normal and necessary. After the pregnancy, breastfeeding can help in reducing some of this excess weight. Many women are successful in returning to their pre-pregnancy weight with diet and exercise too. However, more than 1 in 10 (15%) women permanently gain at least 9 kgs or more weight after each pregnancy. Multiple pregnancies close together can also add to this problem.1
