Myth: Bariatric surgery completely destroys normal digestion

Fact: Bariatric surgery only modifies the normal digestion so fewer nutrients are absorbed

In the gastric bypass and mini-gastric bypass type of surgeries, a part of the intestine is bypassed while attaching the stomach to the intestine. This results in less nutrients being absorbed from food. This combined with eating less food, leads to weight loss.
