Myth: Bariatric surgery causes serious health problems because of shortage of nutrients

Fact: By regularly taking supplements, nutritional deficiency can be reversed

Some bariatric procedures like gastric bypass work by reducing the amount of nutrients absorbed from food. This may sometimes lead to deficiency in certain nutrients leading to weakness and fatigue. After sleeve gastrectomy, the chances of developing nutritional deficiency are low.

However, if you take multivitamins, calcium, and other supplements regularly, this issue may not arise. These supplements will be prescribed by the surgeon.1,2
